The field and industry that is web design is so vast that entire libraries can be dedicated to it, alone. Naturally, you can find a tremendous number of large and small companies that will design a first class site for you. But what are the factors that you need to keep in mind when working with web design? Knowing your site can get the job done is a welcome relief to have off your mind so you can proceed with your marketing.

The opposite is true, as well, if your site has bad navigation, or is not clear – then people will leave almost immediately. Naturally, that’s why you must pay attention to these issues if you want to have a site that converts. So next… let’s discuss some of these tips and hopefully they will help you become more successful.

A simple web design tip to remember is to always keep it simple while staying away from clutter. Yes, it sure is fun to try out all the cool Photoshop effects or have a flash based animation on your site, but keeping it simple without all the hustle bustle will pay off on the long run. Designing a site that’s confusing and full of clutter will simply put off your site’s visitors. You can instead make an appealing website design by using organized information on the pages so that your visitors can easily find what they’re searching for. Also, make sure you have a good balance between text and visual, as it’s not right if one overpowers the other. You won’t want to forget to optimize all images so that your site loads as quickly as possible. Another thing that you need to keep in mind is navigation. Good web design and smooth navigation should always go together. People should be able to visit your site and go right to what they want. Don’t push your visitors on clicking a number of links or scrolling to the bottom of the page, etc. Give them a clear cut road map on how your site is structured and how they can move around. Also, keep in mind that not everyone comes to your site from your home page, as they may find your site through the search engines. For that reason, you’ll want to include the page’s title and also links on the top or bottom that direct the visitor to the important pages of your site, such as your homepage, contact page, about page, etc.

The copy on your site is the most significant part, so it’s very important that visitors can read it. It’s never a good idea to put red text on a black background. Stick to black text on a white background instead, as that always works. You’ll want to make it as easy for visitors to read your copy as possible. All the traffic in the world won’t help you if nobody gets around to reading your site’s copy.

Not long ago Wired Sussex were due to hold the ‘Make it into Media’ event, which was being held at the Corn Exchange, Brighton and Fresh Egg had been invited to attend.  Although it wasn’t advertised as a jobs fair, media companies from all over Sussex were featured and it was great because anyone could pop in to get advice about the industry and possibly pick up a few contacts.

The HR manager Annie Marshall and I set up a stand at the event and about midway through the day I took to the stage to give a presentation on how I got into Search Engine Optimisation and to give my advice on the best paths into the industry.

Now we all know that the East Sussex town of Brighton is well known for it’s number of creative and media talent gurus.   But even so, both Annie and I were blown away by the energy and enthusiasm that the attendees displayed.  Many of the attendees were youngsters looking to break into the media world, but surprisingly, there were also a number of older industry people, many looking at how to make the transition from print to digital and some just fascinated by the whole new world of ‘new media’.

What really amazed me was just how hungry many of the job seekers were and how they really wanted to establish themselves in a new media sphere by basically working their socks off.    Almost instantly after the doors were opened, the Fresh Egg stand was swamped by people wanting to learn not only more about our company, but also about Web Design, SEO, digital development and our fantastic new hatchling CallTrackID™ The interest didn’t let up all morning and it was a very constructive day, not only for Fresh Egg, but for everyone else involved in the whole event.
